Digital Skilling and Opportunities
Women constitute 49% of the Indian population, but their contribution to measurable economic output remains 18%.
The gender pay gap in India is 35% compared to the global average of 16%.
According to the CMIE Consumer Pyramids Household Survey (CPHS) data, four out of 10 women lost jobs in India 2021 while a total of 17 million women lost their livelihood during the nationwide lockdown in March and April 2020.
A World Bank report suggested that 49 million people will be pushed to abject poverty because of the pandemic. More than 12 million people will be pushed to poverty in India alone. Women will be overrepresented in that category creating a new cycle of poverty.
To address the overwhelming economic challenges faced by women in India and other countries, Women in Cloud is creating strategic partnerships with dignitaries, luminaries, technology leaders, non-profits, entrepreneurs, and Fortune companies within a collaborative Local Execution Global Orchestration (LEGO) framework to curate actionable digital solutions and provide comprehensive economic relief through collective action.
The pandemic did not affect us all equally and exacerbated imbalances in our society. This giving season, let’s look at this act of kindness through a different lens: that of a woman, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, a leader or a friend living in India.

Women in Cloud has launched the #empowHERfamily initiative to provide economic relief to 1 million women in India affected by the livelihood crisis caused by the pandemic. Through collective action, #empowerHERfamily will provide hope to the women who need it most during these challenging times.
During the Microsoft GIVE season, Women in Cloud is partnering with Indiaspora, GiveIndia, Microsoft Employees and its partners to help to raise $1 million to distribute as direct cash assistance to 2500 women who lost the primary bread-winner in their families due to Covid-19.
Women in Cloud is looking for people with diverse backgrounds and experiences to serve in a variety of roles — from knowledgeable business mentors to local community advocates.
